About Us
The Institute for Large Scale Innovation (ILSI) is a non-profit
organization founded to address three key questions:
-
How can innovation be fostered most effectively at a societal
level (country, region, city)?
-
How can innovation be harnessed to address complex global
challenges, and how should innovation stewardship work at
a global level?
-
How can international collaboration and alignment be encouraged
in explosively growing new areas of scientific, technological
and human design innovation, such as cleantech, nanotechnology
and others?
We believe that new innovation strategies, supported by tools,
skills and best practices are required as we move into a new
kind of global innovation economy that is being born at a time
of unprecedented disruption and turmoil. It is also a time when
new models of how innovation can serve the global interest are
needed.
By large scale, we do not mean “grand projects” or hierarchy,
but rather approaches that will have pervasive effect and be
appropriately inclusive. We are also mindful that innovation,
uncoupled from social purpose, may generate variety without
necessarily leading to societal benefit. Bottom up, open and
social models of innovation are very much of interest to us.
We want to go beyond the hype of innovation in helping to develop
a new set of fundamentals. In an era of turbulence, we applaud
those with the courage to transform what is troubled into what
is enduring, sustainable, robust and trustworthy.
Our mission is to support the emergence of best stewardship
models for developing global innovation capability, applying
it meaningfully to large-scale challenges and developing a set
of best practices that are relevant worldwide. ILSI aspires
to be a significant coordinating function for innovation on
a global basis.
Some of our core programs include:
-
Supporting the emergence of a network of significant innovation
leaders with the influence to provide a meaningful stewardship
function for innovation at national and international levels.
-
Developing agenda-setting intellectual capital that defines
large-scale innovation and leads to the development of meaningful
tools and best practices.
-
Creating high quality learning experiences relevant to
the next generation of innovation leaders.
-
Underwriting research that documents the emerging global
innovation economy, key innovation flows as well as new
competitive dynamics and opportunities.
